GRACE-WARD!
LET IT RING! That phrase obviously recalls the historic “I Have a Dream” speech given by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on August 28, 1963. The message of justice and freedom that rang out from that speech still resounds today.
There is another message of freedom that continues to be trumpeted from the time of its initial sounding until now. It’s a message that has its origins in the first century and was clearly proclaimed by the believers in the city of Thessalonica. It has been passed on to every follower of Christ today. It’s “the Lord’s message”. The message of the gospel. That message “rang out” from both the lives and lips of the Thessalonians in a unique way. (The underlying word translated “rang out” is only found here in the entire New Testament)
“The Lord’s message rang out from you not only in Macedonia and Achaia—your faith in God has become known everywhere.” (1 Thessalonians 1:8)
The transforming power of the gospel message offers forgiveness of sin and new life in Christ. It caused those in the city of Thessalonica to turn from their lifeless idols to serve the living and true God. The experience was so powerful for them that they wanted (and did) share it with everyone, everywhere they went.
May we follow their example. Allow the gospel message of new life in Christ to turn your heart away from every idol and sin that would keep you bound in silence. Trust Christ to empower you this week to proclaim the message that brings liberty to all who receive it!
